I started the bird series a year ago and, believe me or not, the first bird I wanted to paint was a robin. I had to establish some limits. I decided to set out with small size birds (not more than 5.5 or 6 inches) and to alternate the different continents.
The first one had to be a European one, and I thought a robin could be a very representative one. And how to choose the reference photos?. Quite simple, I had to feel seduced by it. But... by then I didn't found an appealing enough picture. So I chose other species and go on.
I forgot the subject and a month ago I realised that I had never used a photo by a Spanish author. I'm from Spaish, so I started to go over bird Spanish blogs, and there it was, the pretiest robin I've ever seen. Empece la serie de los pájaros hace un año y, me crean o no, el primer pájaro que quise pintar fue un petirrojo. Debía ponerme algunos límites y decidí comenzar con pájaros pequeños (no más de 17 ó 20 cm) e ir alternando los diferentes continentes.
El primero debía ser un pájaro europeo y pensé que el petirrojo podía ser muy representativo. ¿Y como elegiría las fotos que iban a servirme como referencia?. Muy fácil, yo debía sentirme seducido por ellas. Pero... por aquel entonces no encontré ninguna suficientemente interesante. Por eso elegí otra especie y seguí adelante.
Me olvidé del asunto y hace un mes caí en la cuenta de que nunca había utilizado una foto de un autor español. Yo soy español, de modo que empecé a revisar blog españoles sobre aves y naturaleza; y allí estaba, el petirrojo más encantador que nunca había visto nunca. Y de esta forma conocí a su autor, Miguel Montoro, cuyo blog merece una (y más de una) visita. Aquí el enlace:
