BIRD WITH YELLOW FEATHERS

This very morning I've sigthed a western bonelli's warbler in the Central Park of Tres Cantos. This species is more common in Spain than we think, though that birds haven't got a very bright appearance and they are very likely to be confused  with young female sparrows. But when taking off its yellow feathers become more visible and the individual easier to identify..

Esta misma mañana he visto un mosquitero papialvo en el Parque Central de Tres Cantos. Esta especie es más común en España de lo que pensamos, aunque no es muy vistoso y es fácil de confundir con una hembra joven de gorrión. Sin embargo, cuando levanta el vuelo, sus plumas amarillas se hacen muy visibles y el sujeto más fácil de identificar.

SIMPLY A PORTRAIT

This is an old portrait of my son Daniel when he was four. He was handling one of his favourites toys in that time: a water gun. He was stalking a street cat.

Not a recent work because I've had a lot of changes in my life and now it's difficult to find the quietness and even the time for art work. But I'm confident of being able to cope with all that and soon I will retake the usual work rate.

Este es un retrato ya antiguo de mi hijo Daniel. Tiene en las manos uno de sus juguetes favoritos de aquel entonces: una pistola de agua. Estaba entonces acechando a un gato callejero.

No es un trabajo reciente porque ultimamente he tenido un montón de cambios en mu vida y ahora me resulta difícil encontrar la tranqilidad, e incluso el tiempo, necesarios para el trabajo artístico. Pero aún así confío en mi capacidad de adaptación y en que pronto recuperaré mi habitual ritmo de trabajo.

TWO AND THREE OF SWORDS

And you can see the other two playing cards I was committed to; in addition I've add the last version of the "King of Wands". The "Two" is Playmobil-inspired and the three is Lego-inspired.

And now is time for new dares. 2015 year is coming, and I'm eager to start new projects. Of course, I want to follow with the bird series, but there will be something more.

Y ahora puede ver las otras dos cartas que me fueron encargadas. El "Dos" está inspirado en una espada de Palymobil y el "Tres", en una espada de Lego.

Y ahora es el momento de sumir nuevos retos. El año 2015 está a punto de llegar y estoy deseando empezar proyectos nuevos. Por supuesto, seguiré con la serie de los pájaros, pero habrá también más cosas.

THE KING OF WANDS

This is the last piece I've working at, a personal version of the King of Wands.This is part of a project by the Council of the city of Getafe and it's about an artist's desk.

There are forty of us designing forty different cards. Really every artist has to designe three cards and later the best of them would be choosen to be printed and to form a whole set of forty. Indeed I have been commissioned to draw the King of Wands and the Two and Three of Swords.

Therefor it would be a sort of contest and I would like to see this King printed, so please wish me luck.

EL REY DE BASTOS

Esta es la última obra en la que he estado trabajando, una versión personal del Rey de Bastos. Es parte de un proyecto del Ayuntamiento de Getafe para realizar una baraja artística.

Somos cuarenta artistas diseñando cuarenta cartas diferentes. En realidad cada artista debe crear tres cartas diferentes y más tarde se elegirán las mejores para ser impresas y formar un juego completo de cuarenta. De hecho, estoy encargado del Rey de Bastos y el Dos y el Tres de Espadas.

Por tanto, esto es algo parecido a un concurso y me gustaría ver a este Rey impreso, así que, por favor, deseenme suerte.

THE FENCE

Two small pieces of Spain lay in continnental Africa. Once I read that this border, between Spain and Morocco, represents the widest rental gap in the world. As inside the European Union there are no frontiers, whoever crossing that border could freely reach any other European country. Thus Spanish authorities have raised a very tall fence but makeshift camps, corruption and misfortune has quickly appeared around it.

The visible tip of the problem is the legion of poor wretches that try to jump the fence looking for a better future. They become involuntary sitters for the TV cameras so that we all have seen them stranded up at the spiky fence for hours.

There will be a big exhibition at Madrid trying to raise public awareness about the problem. This will be my humble contribution. I'll inform you from this blog about the event.

Dos pequeñas partes del territorio español se encuentran sobre el continente africano. En una ocasión leí que esta frontera entre España y Marruecos, representa la mayor brecha salarial del mundo. Dado que dentro de la Unión Europea ya no hay fronteras, quien cruce este límite puede alcanzar libremente cualquier otro país europeo. por ello, las autoridades españolas han levantado una valla realmente alta pero los campamentos improvisados, la corrupción y la miseria han florecido rápidamente a su alrededor.

La punta visible del problema es la legión de pobres desgraciados que intentan saltar la vaya en busca de un futuro mejor. Ellos terminan siendo figurantes involuntarios para las cámaras de televisión, de modo todos les hemos podido ver varados entre las púas de la vaya durante horas.

En Madrid va a tener lugar una gran exposición tratando de concienciar al público a cerca del problema. Esta pintura va a ser mi humilde contribución. Informaré sobre el evento desde este blog.

Saxicola Torcuata

I did a photographic safari in Tanzania some years ago. Of course I took scores of photos of animals and some of them, very few indeed, were bird pictures.

Despite its poor quality I've always wanted to use them as a reference for a painting and finally I did.

This work has been a real challenge, I've test my knowledge of bird anatomy, I've had to use a great deal of other sources in orther to get some details (eyes, beak, pawns, feathers, ...) and even I had to invent. But at the end I think the outcome is good enough.

I've arrange the work as if it were a postal stamp imitating the aspect of some old South African stamps. If you're a collector don't look for it, it's a made up one.

The bird itself breeds in Africa, but in Europe too, so I did a long travel to paint a bird that could live in a tree by my home.

Hace ya algunos años realicé un safari fotográfico por Tanzania. Por supuesto volví con muchísimas fotos de animales y algunas de ellas, pocas en realidad, eran sobre aves.

A pesar de su poca calidad, siempre he querido usar alguna de ellas como referencia para una pintura y al final lo he hecho.

Este trabajo ha sido todo un desafío, he puesto a prueba mi conocimiento sobre la anatomía de las aves, he tenido que usar otras muchas fuentes para obtener algunos de los detalles (ojos, pico, garras, plumas,...) e incluso he tenido que inventar. Pero al final creo que el resultado ha sido bastante bueno.

He dispuesto la obra como si se tratara de un sello de correos imitando el aspecto de algunos sellos antiguos de Sudáfrica. Si eres un coleccionista no te molestes en buscarlo, porque es un sello inventado.

El pájaro en cuestión se cría tanto en Africa como en Europa, por lo que supongo que hice un largo viaje para pintar un pájaro que podría vivir en un árbol al lado de mi casa.

Abstract paintings

When I finished my degree in Fine Arts, I worked mainly abstract and conceptual art. Nevertheless I've always done figurative painting, even in those days, because I didn't want to loose my skills.

I got very good chriticism in those days, but at some point I considered that it was a very endogamic world and that I wanted to reach a wider audience.Then I take Daniel Dvran as my artistic name and started running my blog about figurative painting in acrylics.

Some people has been asking me to show some of my former abstract paintings and today I'm going to satisfy them.

Here there are two examples, both experimental works, in acrylics too. They are surfaces where painting and colours are the main characters, in them some actions develope, but they are only related to painting as a substance, to its behavior and properties. The outcome tries to suggest and enless, deep and colourfull busy-space, this way I look for a door to the experience of the sublime.

Cuando terminé mis estudios de arte, realicé obras abstractas y conceptuales principalmente.No obstante, siempre he hecho pintura figurativa, incluso en aquellos días, porque siempre he querido conservar mis habilidades.

Conseguí buenas críticas en aquellos días, pero llegué a un punto en que empecé a pensar que se tratatba de un mundo muy endogámico y que yo quería llegar a un público más numeroso. Entonces adopté Daniel Dvran como nombre artístico y comencé my blog dedicado sólo a la pintura acrílica figurativa.

Algunas personas han estado pidiéndome que enseñe algunas de estas obras y hoy voy a satisfacerles.

Aquí presento dos ejemplos, trabajos experimentales tambien realizados con acrílicos. Son superficies donde la pintura y el color son los protagonistas, en ellas ocurren cosas, pero se trata de acciones sólo relacionadas con la pintura, su comportamiento y sus propiedades. El resultado intenta sugerir un espacio activo, ilimitado y profundo, de esta forma lo que busco es una puerta a la experiencia de lo sublime.
